Cost to replace destroyed shed unknown

Grand Ridge Fire Chief Mark Jaegle would not estimate the cost to replace an aging steel storage shed destroyed by fire late Monday afternoon south of Ottawa. Jaegle told “Classic Hits 103-9 WLPO” news that the cause of the fire would have to be determined by Grainco FS and their insurance company.

Jaegle’s crew and 4 other departments extinguished the blaze in 1 hour.  The structure was situated 2 miles south of Ottawa on Route 23 and a short distance from Don’s Furniture and “Friendship Village”.

Teen in Trouble after Allegedly Driving Under the Influence

Not long after getting his driver’s license, an Illinois Valley teen may have lost his for a while.

LaSalle County Deputies stopped a 16-year old boy on Route 23 near Farm Ridge shortly after 3:00 Sunday morning. The teen would be taken to the Sheriff’s Office after police discovered he was allegedly intoxicated.

The boy was arrested for illegal consumption of alcohol by a minor, DUI, and improper lane use. He was later released to his dad and given a court date.

Kingston Man Killed, Passenger Hospitalized in Motorcycle Crash

A motorcycle ride over the weekend would turn out to be a Kingston man’s last.

Thirty-two year old Nathan Pasholk was going west on Old State Road near Kirkland around 5:00 on Saturday. At the same time, 17-year old Elena Halverson from DeKalb was turning into a driveway from an eastbound lane. Pasholk’s motorcycle then hit the truck driven by Halverson, according to the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office.

Pasholk was pronounced dead at the scene while his passenger, 29-year old Kathleen Brust of Kirkland was taken via helicopter to St. Anthony’s hospital in Rockford with serious injuries. Nobody has been ticketed in the crash, which police say is still under investigation.

Rising Tide’s TuesdaysTogether to Help Entrepreneurs in the Illinois Valley

The LaSalle-Peru area is the latest to join a worldwide program designed to help entrepreneurs and small business owners.

The Rising Tide Society announced that LaSalle-Peru is joining more than 300 communities across the globe in their TuesdaysTogether meetings. The group started by holding the meetings, on the second Tuesday of every month, in just 12 cities last May.

The TuesdaysTogether meetings are made up of everyone from hobbyists to lifelong professionals, who can get together and give a variety of support for others who share the same interests. The LaSalle-Peru branch was started by Shanna Aitken, owner of Photography by Shanna.

Cross-Country Cowboys Pass Through Illinois Valley, Raising Money and Awareness for Veterans

It’s not often you see a cowboy riding a horse along Illinois Valley roadways, but you may have recently.

Tony Jones is one of two cowboys riding from Fort Pierce South Dakota to Washington DC to raise awareness and money for veterans through the Semper Fi Fund. Two months into his journey Tony says he’s riding to call awareness to veterans who aren’t getting the care they need.
