Ottawa Teen Faces 14 Years in Prison after Guilty Plea Thursday

Posted by wlpo on July 21, 2016

An Ottawa teen who has had multiple run-ins with police this past year may not get out of prison until his 30’s.

Eighteen-year old Brandyne Cody pled guilty in court Thursday to possession of a stolen motor vehicle and robbery. In exchange, the state agreed to drop the charges of aggravated battery and mob action.

Cody was initially arrested for allegedly stealing a car back in May. Just two days after being released on bond, he was accused of getting together with some friends and convincing a boy to meet them. When the boy did, Cody and others allegedly beat the boy and took his money, according to police.

Judge Cynthia Raccuglia explained to Cody Thursday that, because the robbery happened while he was out for the stolen car charge, any sentences will have to be served back to back. She then said that he faces a maximum sentence of 14 years in prison.

Cody is due back in court for a sentencing hearing September 15th.
