Special plates now available for National Guard and reservists

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) – National Guard members and reservists now will be able to get Illinois driver’s licenses identifying them as veterans.
Lawmakers approved a bill last year allowing veterans to obtain the special identification by providing a certificate of release or discharge from active duty. But some National Guard members and reservists couldn’t provide that paperwork. Gov. Bruce Rauner signed a law Friday allowing those service members to submit additional forms that prove veteran’s status.
The licenses help veterans more easily obtain discounts and other benefits.
