Peru goes with youth movement in picking new treasurer
Posted by wlpo on July 11, 2016
The average age of elected officials in Peru just went down a lot.
Twenty-eight-year-old Jackson Powell has been appointed city treasurer. The L-P grad replaces Gary Hylla who retired with under a year left in his term.
Powell was picked out of two finalists and will make nearly $6,000 a year as treasurer. He’s also the controller at First Federal Savings Bank.
The treasurer’s position will be up for election in April.
