Former County Jailer Appears in Court on Theft Charges

Posted by wlpo on July 9, 2016

The former LaSalle County jailer accused of taking more than $10,000 in Social Security payments after a relative had died appeared in court Friday.

Lisa Von Ruden appeared without a lawyer, telling Judge Cynthia Raccuglia she didn’t feel that she needed one because she “had no intention of fighting the charges.” Raccuglia pushed back the proceedings, telling Von Ruden “It’s best you find a lawyer, you know better.”

The 51-year old former resident of rural Streator faces two felony charges for the theft, which allegedly started in August of 2014. It was then Von Ruden supposedly started receiving the Social Security payments and authorizing herself as the payee. This allegedly continued throughout last year.

She was able to post bond to be released and is due back in court the 26th.
