Words like progress and optimism coming out of Springfield

Posted by wlpo on June 29, 2016

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) – Don’t get your hopes up too high but state lawmakers are returning to the capital today amid new signs of optimism about a deal to keep the state operating without a full budget.

The Legislature is meeting today for the first time since they went home in May without approving a full-year budget for the second straight year. The state’s new budget year begins Friday.

Late Tuesday party leaders said they made progress during a nearly three-hour meeting with Gov. Bruce Rauner and would meet again this morning. The major disagreement has been over money for education, particularly in Chicago.
