News from the Illinois Valley

Time has almost arrived for Gypsy Moth treatment in the Illinois Valley

Posted by wlpo on June 20, 2016

In just a few days, planes will fly over Starved Rock State Park and other parts of the Illinois Valley dropping non-toxic treatment. It won’t keep Chicago tourists out but it should help stop mating of the Gypsy Moth.

Depending on the weather, state crews could begin treatment Friday morning. They’ll drop Pheromone flakes which supposedly stop the mating of gypsy moths which can kill trees and plants.

The treatment will go on early in the morning and cover over 63,000 acres. The planes will only be about 200 feet in the air.
