LaSalle County Health Department Reminds You to Keep Kids’ Vaccines Current

Have you made plans to get make sure your kids’ vaccinations are up to date before next school year?

The LaSalle County Health Department is advising you to make those appointments sooner rather than later to assure they can meet the school’s requirements. Among the diseases they say can be prevented with vaccines are measles, mumps, whooping cough and others.

The Health Department holds immunization clinics the second Thursday of every months at the LaSalle County Health Department on Etna Road in Ottawa. If you’d like to make an appointment or more information, call 433-3366.

Ottawa Man Wanted in Three Counties Arrested

A man wanted three counties was arrested after he couldn’t stay out of trouble in Ottawa.

Police went to the house of 20-year old James Casey-Wiggins on Sunday. It was there that Casey-Wiggins would arrest an officer and be arrested. That was just the start of his troubles.

After being arrested, it was discovered that he was wanted on 6 warrants out of 3 counties. Four of those warrants were out of LaSalle County alone. Police have not yet indicated what charges those warrants carry.

Casey-Wiggins was given a notice to appear in court. He is due back in court July 1st.

Windows shot out at Hall High School

The relatively new Hall High School needs a couple new windows.

Spring Valley Police are searching for whoever shot out a couple windows at the high school Friday night. Surveillance footage shows the suspects driving a pickup truck.

Investigators say the vandals used an unknown type of firearm. If you have any information, call the Spring Valley Police Department or the Bureau/Putnam County Crime Stoppers.

Seneca voters need a new state representative

An Illinois Valley lawmaker has resigned to take a job in Governor Bruce Rauner’s administration.

Republican 75th District State Representative John Anthony resigned Friday. He’s going to work with the Illinois Department of Corrections. Before going to Springfield, Anthony was a police officer.

Grundy County Republican Chairman Aren Hansen says Anthony won’t be easy to replace. Hansen will be one of four party chairmen to pick a successor. The 75th District includes a stretch of eastern La Salle County along with all or at least parts of Grundy, Kendall and Will Counties.

DePue woman hurt in Route 251 and Interstate 80 crash

The latest crash at the intersection of Interstate 80 and Route 251 in Peru was allegedly caused by a driver running a red light.

Fifty-five year old David Davis of DePue told police he had a yellow light when he crashed into 34-year-old Melissa Didricksen of Utica on Saturday afternoon. Didricksen was turning onto Route 251 from the I-80 westbound off ramp.

Despite Davis’ claim of a yellow light, he was ticketed for running a red light. One of his passengers, 54-year-old Pamela Davis of DePue was taken to St. Margaret’s Hospital in Spring Valley. Nobody else was hurt.

Time has almost arrived for Gypsy Moth treatment in the Illinois Valley

In just a few days, planes will fly over Starved Rock State Park and other parts of the Illinois Valley dropping non-toxic treatment. It won’t keep Chicago tourists out but it should help stop mating of the Gypsy Moth.

Depending on the weather, state crews could begin treatment Friday morning. They’ll drop Pheromone flakes which supposedly stop the mating of gypsy moths which can kill trees and plants.

The treatment will go on early in the morning and cover over 63,000 acres. The planes will only be about 200 feet in the air.

One injury in rollover crash near Tonica

A rollover outside of Tonica landed one person in the hospital.

Firefighters and paramedics from Tonica rushed out to southbound Interstate 39 just after six Sunday night. A car rolled off the interstate.

The person injured was taken to Illinois Valley Community Hospital in Peru with what’s being called “non-life threatening injuries.”

La Salle summer festival moved to downtown

It’s almost time to “Celebrate La Salle”.

The festival is moving from Rotary Park to 2nd Street in downtown La Salle. Things get going Thursday with a carnival and live music. City-wide garage sales also start up Thursday morning. The weekend long festival will include fireworks, a 5K, craft vendors, and a car show.

“Happy Hour”in downtown Ottawa will feature Senator Rezin

Hopefully this trip to Ottawa won’t involve getting yelled and cussed at.

State Senator Sue Rezin will be at the Lone Buffalo Tuesday from 5 until 6 for what’s being called a “Happy Informative Hour.” The Republican will give an update on what’s happening in Springfield. If you plan on stopping by, you’re asked to RSVP with the Ottawa Chamber of Commerce.

A video featuring Rezin walking to see Governor Bruce Rauner speak in Ottawa earlier this month went viral because of a man berating the senator.
