Price of Gas Edges Down Across Illinois

If you’re planning on checking out any of the events around the Illinois Valley this weekend, it’ll cost a bit less to fill up your car.

According to GasBuddy.com, Peru and La Salle have the cheapest gas in the valley with $2.27 and $2.29 per gallon gas. Streator prices are also on the low end at $2.34.

It’ll cost a little more in Ottawa, Spring Valley, and Oglesby where you can find gas for $2.39 a gallon. Gas in Princeton and Mendota is on the high end, at $2.49 and $2.59 per gallon.

Statewide, the average price of unleaded is down 5 cents per gallon to $2.62.

Crash Caused by Buckled Pavement on I-39

More information has been released about the crash that led to the closing of Interstate 39 South for 3 hours Wednesday night.

According to State Police, 26-year old James Yoon from Rockford was heading south on 39 just before 7, between the bridge and Oglesby exit, when his car hit the pavement that had buckled. Then, police say Yoon lost control of his car and hit a semi which was driven by 44-year old William Glover from Garland, Texas.

Nobody was injured in the crash but the interstate had to be closed for 3 hours Wednesday night, and one lane was closed for part of the morning Thursday, so that the buckled pavement could be fixed.

Crash Involving Motorcycle and RV Hospitalizes Rider

A serious crash snarled traffic as part of a busy intersection had to be shut down Thursday.

The crash, which involved an RV and motorcycle, took place shortly after noon, and happened a quarter-mile south of the Route 251 and 71 intersections. Route 251 was closed for about 30 minutes while crews worked on the crash scene, then one lane was opened while they continued to work.

The driver of the motorcycle had to be taken to Illinois Valley Community Hospital, while the driver of the RV was treated at the scene.

Teen Crashes into Shed after Missing Semi Thursday

A wild crash that took place Thursday fortunately didn’t result in any injuries.

According to LaSalle County Deputies a 17-year old girl was following a semi on Route 251 around 7 in the morning. The semi’s driver, 33-year old Brian Ernat from Ottawa swung his truck out to pull into his driveway. Police say the girl thought Ernat was turning the other way, and had to swerve to avoid him.

After she swerved off the road, she went into a ditch and through a yard before eventually crashing into a garden shed.

Nobody was hurt in the crash, and there were no tickets given out.

More on 34 Sales Throughout the Illinois Valley this Weekend

Some Illinois Valley towns are taking part in an annual sale that’s returning this Father’s Day Weekend

The More on 34 Sales are back Friday and Saturday.  The sales run from Galesburg to Yorkville. Towns in the Illinois Valley taking part include: Sheffield; Wyanet; Princeton; LaMoille; Mendota; Earlville; Somonauk; and Sandwich. In Princeton indoor and outdoor sales will be at the Bureau County Fairgrounds.
