Rauner Calls Out Democrats After Moving Address Due To Protests

Posted by wlpo on June 6, 2016

The usually quiet chambers of the Ottawa City Council were filled to capacity Monday afternoon in anticipation of a speech by Governor Bruce Rauner. City Hall as a whole was so packed the Governor’s speech ended up being moved to the downtown courthouse a few blocks over.

School superintendents from throughout the Illinois Valley were in attendance along with teachers and union members to hear Rauner talk about the state budget impasse during a “educational and government operations funding” address. In the speech, Rauner criticized Michael Madigan and other Democratic lawmakers for holding up funding for education and social services to get more money for the “Chicago political machine.”  While not mentioning him by name, the governor urged Illinois Valley voters to contact Andy Skoog, hoping to get Skoog and other lawmakers to “stand up to Madigan.”

When asked about the controversy surrounding Illinois Auditor General Frank Mautino, Rauner said he “shares the concerns” State Senator Sue Rezin and others have expressed.
