DNR to examine cleanup offer

Posted by wlpo on June 5, 2016

As you may know, the council overhang at Starved Rock State Park was found marred by graffiti last week. Conservation Police officer Sgt. Phil Wire told “Classic Hits 103-9 WLPO” a group has supposedly offered to clean the site at no cost to the State.  He could not identify the group, but said the decision would be made by the Department of Natural Resources in Springfield. Wire said the DNR would have to be assured no further damage would occur as a result of the cleanup.

If you discover someone defacing park property, Wire said to notify State Police.  If you can safely get pictures with a camera phone, then do so.  But, don’t confront the troublemakers yourself.  Camera phone pictures are proving useful in an earlier incident at “WildCat Canyon” said Wire.  Some troublemakers were throwing items down upon other visitors.
