Andy Skoog accused of breaking state law by Republican opponent

Posted by wlpo on May 17, 2016

It may not be to the level of Hillary versus Donald but Jerry versus Andy for state representative is a race that’s heating up.

Republican Jerry Long of Streator put out a statement saying “Rep. Andy Skoog pulled a stunt last week that shows a blatant disregard for the law. He used state money to send out a campaign mailing for political purposes when Illinois doesn’t even have a budget”. Long says the survey trashed political opponents and pandered for votes and that taxpayers should be outraged for funding the mail. He added “this is what politicians do when they’re on Michael Madigan’s leash”.

In response, the Democrat Skoog said “Jerry Long is continuing the kind of politics that has caused chaos and gridlock in Springfield”. He goes on to say “this is the kind of politics that’s destroying our state”.

Skoog says he mailed out the survey to help him better understand your concerns. Long says state law prohibits politicians from using public funds for their campaigns.
