County Lawmakers Urge Springfield Colleagues to Keep Funding Energy Assistance Program

Posted by wlpo on April 16, 2016

The LaSalle County Board is urging state lawmakers to help the less fortunate in the Illinois Valley stay warm in the winter.

After a presentation by the president of the Tri-County Opportunity Council, the board voted to show support for a bill in Springfield. The bill would continue to give state money to the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program, or LIHEAP, even in the event of a state budget impasse like the one going on now.

The LIHEAP program helps people who are well below the poverty line in a number of ways ranging from one-time payments to help those who have fallen behind on their bills, to helping get your heat reconnected if it has been shut off.
