Posted by wlpo on March 31, 2016

Job hunters in the Illinois Valley were much more successful in February than January, but unemployment is still high in the Valley and statewide.

The unemployment rates for LaSalle, Bureau, and Putnam Counties all improved by about a point last month. LaSalle is still amount the 20 highest counties though, at 8.6% unemployment. Bureau is slightly better at 8.1%, and Putnam is the lowest at 7.7%.

By comparison, in February of last year unemployment in all three counties was around 7.3%. The Illinois Valley still has a ways to go to catch the 7% rate for Illinois. Unemployment across the country is even lower, at 5.2%.
