Police and fire departments had a run-in Friday with a Compton man allegedly trying to burn down his own place.

Lee County Deputies got to an apartment complex just before noon. They said they smelled gas and saw a small fire near the front of the building. Witnesses earlier had said Brandon Johnson was allegedly tearing up his apartment and trying to set it on fire.

After the Compton Fire Department made sure all of the fires were out, police found Johnson hiding in the basement of the apartment complex.

Johnson has since been charged with Aggravated Arson and Resisting a Peace Officer.
