Trump bringing his campaign to Bloomington

Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump is scheduled to speak in Bloomington Sunday morning at 10 inside the Synergy Flight Center on East Empire Street. The doors will open at 7.

Prison time for Illinois Valley man accused in dozens of burglaries

A serial burglar from Spring Valley is headed to prison.

According to the NewsTribune, 33-year-old Mason Hass pled guilty Friday to two counts of residential burglary and three counts of burglary. He’s been given 12 years in prison as part of a plea deal.

Hass was arrested last year after investigators think he may have been behind 30 burglaries in La Salle, Bureau and Marshall Counties. He was paroled from prison in 2014 after doing time for a residential burglary conviction in La Salle County.

Online petition asks Earlville superintendent to cancel donkey basketball

Donkey basketball fundraisers…are they fun or cruel?

Earlville High School is the site of a donkey basketball game tonight at 7. Ticket and concession sales will go towards the senior class.

Animal rights activists however plan to protest outside the school saying donkey basketball is a “cruel and outdated practice”. An online petition asking the school superintendent to cancel tonight’s game has been “signed” by over 100 people.

Skoog pushing the state to act quicker on conceal carry rulings

Long before he and other House members left Springfield for Easter, Representative Andy Skoog wrote up a bill to help frustrated gun owners.

Right now the state gets up to 30 days to review and issue a ruling on a concealed carry application that is challenged. However even after the 30 days, a state board can delay their decision for an extended period of time. Skoog’s proposal requires a decision one way or another on a gun permit within 60 days.

Skoog says he came up with the bill after hearing from frustrated gun owners who have been left in limbo.

County courthouses extend hours for early voting

It’s officially crunch time if you want to vote before Tuesday’s primary.

County clerks’ offices in La Salle, Bureau and Putnam County all were open Saturday for early voting. In La Salle County you can also vote Sunday from 9 until 4 and Monday from 8 until 7. In Bureau County, the courthouse in Princeton is open Monday from 8 until 4 for early voting.

In Putnam County, you can cast an early ballot at the courthouse in Hennepin on Monday between 8:30 and 4:30.

Car burns outside Goodwill store in Peru

There was some commotion outside the Goodwill in Peru.

Peru firefighters were called about a car fire at the shopping complex along 38th Street. When firefighters arrived just before 5:30 in the afternoon Friday, they found a car fully engulfed.

Nobody was injured.

Handful of arrests made after Donald Trump rally gets called off

CHICAGO (AP) – Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump cancelled a rally in Chicago, calling off the event due to safety concerns after protesters packed into the arena Friday night.

The announcement that Trump would postpone the rally for another day led the crowd inside the University of Illinois at Chicago Pavilion to break out into raucous cheers. Parts of the crowd also broke out in minor scuffles.

The Chicago PD says five arrests were made.
