Tuesday storm likely to bring rain

Posted by wlpo on January 31, 2016

There’s a storm coming – most likely Tuesday. If you’re a weather geek, you’ve probably been tracking it since last Wednesday. The latest National Weather Service forecast hints at rain and a “Wintery mix” for the Illinois Valley Tuesday. The heaviest snow will fall far west of the Illinois Valley. The Weather Service emphasizes the storm’s track is not 100% certain as the storm won’t arrive on the west coast until early Monday. The forecasters do see colder temperatures settling in for the second half of this week.

Midland Schools closed Monday

Posted by wlpo on January 31, 2016

Midland schools 3 buildings will be closed Monday….and perhaps Tuesday as the board is faced with lead and mold issues in the Lacon elementary school. The Peoria Journal Star reports the decision was made at an emergency meeting of the school board late Saturday afternoon. The problems came to light in a report assembled by Ideal Environmental Engineering. No one from the engineering firm was present for Saturday’s meeting.

However, Vice President Tiona Kimble said she was present for the building inspection. The inspector reportedly told Kimble it wouldn’t be necessary to move the kids out and the suggested responses to the problems could be done in an evening’s time. Those responses include stablizing the lead paint found and enclosing affected areas, cleaning up dust-borne lead and conducting a full-building risk assessment.
