Streator facility changes names Monday

Posted by wlpo on January 3, 2016

Tommorrow, you won’t call it St. Mary’s Hospital in Streator….but rather, OSF Center for Health in Streator. The new OSF outpatient clinic in the old hospital will be dedicated at 11am in the chapel on Spring street. Hospital Sisters Health System is giving up ownership of the hospital to OSF stating that it was too hard to recruit doctors to Streator and the number of in patient admissions has dropped off dramatically.

The Illinois Health Facilities and Services Review Board voted for “discontinuation of St. Mary’s Hospital” despite hearing from several who opposed the closing. OSF has said they will continue to use the St. Mary’s building as an outpatient clinic until a new one is built in the city. St. Mary’s could also still have an emergency room if it clears state regulatory approval.
