Streator Teachers Labor Talks Show Progress, Strike Still Possible

Co-president of the Streator Educators Association Jan Urbance says the sides were able to compromise on a majority of issues. However, they still differ greatly on key items like insurance. The difference is significant enough that Urbance says teachers are still preparing for a January strike.

IVCC Adds Soccer

Posted by wlpo on December 11, 2015

Whether you’re into it or not, the popularity of soccer in the Illinois Valley continues to go up.

Seeing the trend, the Illinois Valley Community College Board of Trustees has approved adding men’s and women’s soccer starting next fall.  President Jerry Corcoran says adding soccer will increase enrollment, enhance the student experience and meet a community need.  Letters from Illinois Valley youth and high school coaches influenced the board’s decision.

Soccer won’t require tuition waivers for players so the estimated cost to the college is less than $18,000.
