Home phones continue to be a thing of the past in Illinois

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) – Have you made the move to get rid of a home phone yet? State numbers show about half of Illinois households use cellphones only.

The Illinois Commerce Commission says 48 percent of households in the state relied on wireless-only service at the end of last year. Landline use has dropped 36 percent from 2005 to 2014. There are about 5 million landline users in Illinois and about 13 million wireless subscribers.

The national rate of wireless-only users is 41 percent.

More Rita Crundwell belongings to be auctioned off to repay Dixon

DIXON, Ill. (AP) – If you’re a belt buckle collector, get ready to throw some money around. More things once belonging to former Dixon comptroller Rita Crundwell will be auctioned off.

A recent auction of an English riding saddle, spurs and other goodies raised nearly $47,000 and the next auction starts Tuesday¬†and runs through Dec. 1st and includes Crundwell’s collection of belt buckles. Auction proceeds will go to Dixon.

Crundwell stole millions from the city over two decades. She was convicted in one of the largest government embezzlement cases in American history and is serving a 19-year sentence.
