Dust problems reported on the east side of La Salle

Posted by wlpo on October 27, 2015

Is it hard to breathe these days on the east end of La Salle?

La Salle Alderman Jerry Reynolds says he continues to get several complaints from homeowners and business owners on the east side of town about dust. A neighbor of Illinois Cement living along Rockwell Road thinks the dust is coming from the cement plant and says it takes a special treatment including vinegar to get the dust off of cars and homes.

Mayor Jeff Grove plans to ask the cement company about the dust and said in the past they’ve offered to pay the cost of cleaning dusty cars. Alderman John Duncan wondered if some of the dust could be coming from farm fields.

A hit and run on the east side of La Salle involved a couple of women.

La Salle Police got called around 10 Monday night about a woman who was hit by a car in the 1000 block of Sixth Street. The 20-year-old only had minor injuries and avoided a trip to the hospital. The driver involved was long gone.

An alert went out to police departments across the Illinois Valley and the Grundy County Sheriff’s Office eventually arrested 20-year-old Bobbie Ollom of Seneca for failing to render aid and provide information after an accident. She was also picked up for having marijuana and paraphernalia.

Ollom was released with a court date.
