WAJK “Boo Bash” at “Y” Saturday

Kids can dress up for “Halloween” and have a lot of fun Saturday at the Illinois Valley “Y” in Peru.  The annual “WAJK Boo Bash” is 11 -1 and offer a lot of free stuff.  The first 100 children to come in get a free pumpkin.

There’s a photo booth, games, prizes and candy.

Budget impasse players may go public

A long-awaited meeting between Governor Bruce Rauner and legislative leaders to discuss Illinois’ budget impasse could materialize next month. Several better government groups this week requested Rauner meet with leaders including House Speaker Michael Madigan and Senate President John Cullerton.

Illinois Campaign for Political Reform chairwoman Susan Garrett says Madigan responded and suggested the meeting be public. Chicago’s Union League Club offered space for November 18th.

Oglesby athlete to speak in Chicago Saturday

Oglesby Special Olympian Kelli Ewbank is the featured athlete at this year’s Special Olympics of Illinois “Inspire Greatness Gala” in Chicago. The 25-year-old will tell her story to the crowd gathered at Four Seasons in Chicago Saturday night.

Ewbank has been an athlete since 2006, competing at the state level in aquatics, bocce, bowling and basketball. She also finds time to help with swim lessons at the Illinois Valley YMCA.

This past summer, Ewbank won the Special Olympics gold medal in the 100-meter freestyle swim.

Radio play and party in Princeton

Festival 56” stages productions during the summer, but they’re also active now. The Princeton theatre group will perform “War of the Worlds: A Radio Play” Halloween night at the Grace Performing Arts Center. You’re invited to come in costume; you might win a prize. They’ll have raffles and free candy.
