Level of Chlorine in Princeton water higher during flushing

Posted by wlpo on October 3, 2015

Don’t be surprised if you’re drinking water in Princeton has a little hint of chlorine.

In getting ready for water main flushing, the city has increased the level of chlorine in the water supply. John Eggers of the Princeton Water Department says the water may give off a bleach-like odor. You can keep a pitcher of water in the fridge for drinking since the chlorine will go away after a few minutes.

Water main flushing starts Monday and should last around two weeks. The mains will be flushed during the day from 7 until 3.

While the mains are being flushed, you may have lower pressure or discolored water to go along with the chlorine smell.

Drivers needed for “Meals on Wheels”

Posted by wlpo on October 3, 2015

For there to be a “Meals on Wheels” delivery service, it’s important to have enough wheels to deliver the meals.

The Illinois Valley Center for Independent Living’s Mobile Meals program needs volunteer drivers for routes in La Salle, Peru and Oglesby. You only have to commit to 4 hours per month. Drivers have to do a brief volunteer training course along with having car insurance and pass a state police background check.

Besides delivering food to those who can’t cook for themselves, you’ll also act as someone to do wellness checks on the customers. Meals are picked up at IVCH and delivered between 11 and 1.

If interested in helping out the Mobile Meals program, call Terri at 224-3406.
