Hennepin saying good-bye to Kuhne

Posted by wlpo on August 23, 2015

In the Hennepin area, they’re saying “good bye” to a man who made a huge impact on the area over many years. 89-year old Marion Kuhne died in a Peoria hospice facility last Thursday. According to a release from Dysart Cofoid Funeral Chapel, Kuhne was born in Hennepin in 1925. As an adult, he worked for Continental Grain, Illinois Power and the town’s water District.

As a community leader, Kuhne was closely involved with key aspects of Hennepin’s growth. Kuhne organized the village fire department and was its Chief for 30 years. He was President of the Town Board, Park District, school boards, Ambulance board and the Zoning Board of Appeals. In these capacities, he oversaw the consolidation of the Putnam County schools, helped bring J and L steel into the community, developed an indoor olympic pool and provided an ambulance and skilled EMT’s to the area. He served in many local and national organizations. He also, by the way, was a Army World War II veteran.
