Bernabei thinks Route 251 intersection needs changes

Posted by wlpo on August 15, 2015

Do you think the intersection of Route 251 and Ben Samek Road, south of the Illinois River is dangerous and needs something done about it? You aren’t alone.

Peru Police Chief Doug Bernabei is one of the supporters of making the T-intersection safer. Bernabei said the department has gotten plenty of calls over the last several years at the intersection, and most of the time they are very serious.

Bernabei said even though the intersection falls under the jurisdiction of Peru Police, it’s a state highway. So the Illinois Department of Transportation has control over the speed limits there, as well as how the intersection is set up.

Bernabei said the police department has petitioned and had talks with IDOT about making changes at the intersection.
