Peru boy life flighted to Peoria after truck vs. motorized bike crash

Posted by wlpo on August 4, 2015

A 13-year-old boy from Peru was life flighted to Peoria after riding his bike into the path of a pick-up truck.

Peru emergency responders responded to the intersection of Market and Calhoun Streets on the south side of Peru shortly before 12:30 this afternoon about a pickup vs. motorized bike accident.

According to Peru police, the 13-year-old boy was riding the bike north on Calhoun when he didn’t stop or yield at the yield intersection. He drove out in front of a pickup truck driven by a 17-year-old boy from La Salle, who was heading west on Market. The investigation indicated the 13-year-old was likely using the bike with the engine on at the time of the crash.

The 13-year-old was taken to Illinois Valley Community Hospital in Peru and was then life flighted to OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria. Neither the 17-year-old pickup driver or his 16-year-old passenger from Peru were injured.

The investigation stated the crash wasn’t the 17-year-olds fault.
