A drunken driver from Bureau County is blamed in a crash in Peru that sent five people to the hospital.

Witnesses and Peru police think 27-year-old Nicholas Henderson of Arlington ran a red light at Route 251 and May Road Saturday afternoon. He smashed into the minivan of 38-year-old Laurel Bruns of Ottawa and allegedly drove away from the accident before being caught nearby.

Henderson was arrested for DUI, illegal transportation of alcohol, leaving the scene of an accident and running the red light. He was given a court date.

Henderson and his passenger, 38-year-old Jaci Cummings of Bradford were both taken to Illinois Valley Community Hospital in Peru. Bruns and her passengers, 15-year-old and 12-year-old boys from Ottawa were also all taken to IVCH.
