Corrections officer being remembered

    Her fellow employees and inmates are sorely affected by the passing of a 30-year old Livingston County corrections officer killed in a 2 vehicle crash on Thursday. According to the “True Blue Warriors” Facebook page, Katherine “Katie” Duda was eastbound on the Long Point Blacktop when she was broadsided by a 68-year old California woman who failed to stop at an intersection. Duda’s injuries in that accident were fatal.

    Duda had been with the sheriff’s office for 2 years, and according to Livingston County Sheriff’ Tony Childress loved her job. She was well liked and respected by her fellow officers and even the inmates because she treated all with humanity and fairness. Duda leaves behind her husband, Stanley and 2 sons Hayden and Stanley Jr. Memorials may be made to her sons.

Man fatally shot in Marshall County

       A small village about 10 miles southwest of Wenona is dealing with Sunday morning violence. The Marshall County Sheriff’s office says they received a call about 4:40am Sunday of a shooting at a LaRose residence. The Sheriff’s office release says deputies arrived about 5am and found a dead white male lying in the driveway next to a truck. The man had gunshot wounds.

     Another man remained locked up in the house. He surrendered to deputies about 2 ½ hours later. The release did not contain the names of the individuals involved or what might have triggered the event. The Sheriff’s office said more information will be released later. Illinois State Police will continue the investigation assisted by the Sheriff’s office.
