Posted by wlpo on July 23, 2015

You’re not supposed to pass more than one car at a time on a two-lane highway, and a Yorkville man found that out the hard way.

Kristoffer Griffin was trying to pass several cars at one time as he was heading south on Route 71 south of Sheridan Tuesday night, when he struck another car going north head on.

Griffin was taken to OSF Saint Elizabeth Medical Center in Ottawa before being transported to OSF Saint Francis Hospital in Peoria.

The other driver, Ashley Warren of Lake in the Hills, refused medical treatment.

Amboy and Sublette Fire Departments getting some new equipment

Posted by wlpo on July 23, 2015

After a tornado ripped through Woodhaven Lakes last month, the Amboy and Sublette Fire Departments realized they needed a ‘command post’ to work out of during major disasters.

Problem solved.

The two fire departments recently bought a used camper-trailer that will setup as a command and communications center at major disaster incidents, such as a tornado.

The trailer will be used in a variety of ways, including a comfort station for families, rehab services for fire/EMS personnel, and a command post for lost children; among other things. The trailer will be accessible for all types of agencies, ranging from local police to the Red Cross.

50 percent of the funds needed to renovate the trailer and make it disaster-proof have already been collected, but the fire departments are asking for your help to cover the rest of the costs. You can contact either the Amboy or Sublette Fire Departments to make a donation.
