Ottawa woman facing heroin charges

An Ottawa woman who was out on parole just a few weeks ago has found herself back in trouble again.

Allison Spaulding was charged Monday with unlawful possession of a controlled substance (heroin) with intent to deliver. She was arrested at her home in the 1400 block of Boyce Memorial Drive by Ottawa Police and the Illinois Department of Corrections Parole Division.

Spaulding had been released on parole from the Illinois Department of Corrections on July 2nd.

She was taken to the La Salle County Jail.

Oglesby collects over 3 million in building permits

With a new medical marijuana facility well on its way, the city of Oglesby saw over 3 million dollars enter the city by way of building permits in the last quarter.

According to the NewsTribune, the city council accepted the builder inspectors report for the last quarter at last night’s city council meeting. Total projects equaled 3.7 million dollars, thanks in large part to 2.7 million from Green Thump Industries, the company building the medical marijuana plant.

Oglesby Mayor Don Finley joked that he wished the city could see those numbers every quarter. He said the construction project was well underway, and that the company hopes to start cultivating the medical marijuana in September.

Two people hurt in crash near Marseilles

Two people were sent to the hospital after a crash near Marseilles.

Shortly before 1 Monday afternoon, Cynthia Lyne of Morris was heading eastbound on North 30th Road when she stopped at the intersection of East 24th Road near Marseilles.

Thinking it was a four-way stop, Lyne headed through the intersection right in front of a car driven by Ethan Zartman of Ottawa. Zartman swerved to avoid Lyne’s car and ended up rolling over in the ditch.

Zartman and his passenger, Bethany Zartman of Ottawa, were both taken to OSF Saint Elizabeth Medical Center in Ottawa.

La Salle approves city budget

La Salle has a new budget, and it leaves the city in much better shape.

The city council approved a new appropriations budget Monday night which showed savings over last year’s budget.

La Salle reduced spending by over $660,000 and increased revenue by just short of $100,000 for a net swing of over $760,000 from a year ago.

Finance Director John Duncan said it’s a tremendous swing in a positive direction. The budget covers the fiscal year from May 1st, 2015 until April 30, 2016.

Downed stop sign leads to two-car crash north of Streator

A downed stop sign is to blame for a two-crash north of Streator that sent two people to the hospital.

Shortly before 5 Monday afternoon, Brian Fenoglio of West Brooklyn was heading west on North 18th Road when he collided with Vincent Rix of Grand Ridge, who was heading north on East 18th Road.

According to the Illinois State Police, neither man had a stop sign in the intersection due to it being knocked down in the recent storms.

Fenoglio was taken to St. Mary’s Hospital in Streator while Rix was taken to OSF Saint Elizabeth Medical Center in Ottawa.
