Three young children allegedly riding around with a drunken driver near Ottawa

A Mendota man is not only accused of driving drunk but also doing it with three kids along for the ride.

Thirty-one-year-old Javier Cervantes-Beltran was pulled over on westbound Interstate 80 just after midnight Saturday morning near Ottawa. He was arrested for DUI, illegal transportation of alcohol, driving without a valid license, and endangering the health and life of a child. Deputies say the three children riding with Cervantes-Beltran were 11, 10, and 5 years old

Cervantes-Beltran was taken to the La Salle County Jail.

Alleged drunk driver accused of running over motorcyclist near Somonauk

A man from Sandwich is in big trouble for allegedly causing a crash that seriously injured a motorcyclist.

According to the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office, 40-year-old David Brown of Sandwich was serving all over the road north of Somonauk Saturday morning when he forced two people on motorcycles to lay their bikes down on the road. Brown is accused hitting 32-year-old Douglas Koehler of Naperville and then leaving the scene.

Koehler was taken to Valley West Hospital before being flown to Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove. Brown was later tracked down at his home in Sandwich and arrested for aggravated DUI, leaving the scene of an injury accident, reckless driving, driving with a revoked license, and failing to report an accident to police.

He was taken to the DeKalb County Jail.

Teenage girl hit by a car in Streator

A teenage girl was hurt after getting hit by a car in Streator.

Just after 10 Friday morning, La Salle County deputies say the 15-year-old stepped in front of a car driven by 52-year-old Suzanne Bayer of Streator on Broadway Street near Otter Creek Road. The young girl was taken to St. Mary’s Hospital in Streator.

Bayer wasn’t ticketed.

Fireworks planned across the Illinois Valley

It should be a beautiful night to take in some fireworks.

Mendota, Ottawa, Princeton, Streator, Hennepin and Henry will all shoot off their fireworks at dusk. Streator’s fireworks are accompanied by music on 99.3 WAJK. Henry and Hennepin’s fireworks are still on despite flooding worries.

Weekend displays wrap up Sunday with fireworks in Utica and Walnut.
