Freedom Run moved from Marseilles

Posted by wlpo on June 20, 2015

The Illinois Motorcycle Freedom Run isn’t cancelled, but the usual sight of motorcycles roaring into Marseilles won’t happen Saturday.

Due to flooding concerns in Marseilles, this year’s motorcycle run will still leave out from the Grundy County Fairgrounds at 10:30 but instead of heading to Marseilles for a ceremony and day’s worth of activities, the bikes will head back to Morris around noon for a ceremony. The ceremony in Morris includes the reading of 53 new names that were etched onto the Memorial Wall in Marseilles Friday.

Once the ceremony is finished, the gold star families will be taken to Marseilles to visit the Wall.

Due to the heavy motorcycle traffic expected, southbound Illinois 47 at Illinois 52 and westbound 52 at 47 will be closed from 10 until 2 Saturday by the Kendall County Sheriff’s Office.

Video shows Chicago officer firing on black youths in car

Posted by wlpo on June 20, 2015

CHICAGO (AP) – A retired judge has released dashcam video from a Chicago Police car that shows a white officer repeatedly firing his handgun into a vehicle full of black youths who had been pulled over for speeding.

Two teens were injured in the December 2013 shooting and left lying, handcuffed and bleeding, in the street with no apparent effort to get them urgent medical treatment. A civil lawsuit by their families resulted in a $360,000 settlement.

Former Cook County Judge Andrew Berman presided over a criminal trial of one of the teens and said he felt obligated to make the video public. He gave it to the Chicago Reporter magazine, which first reported the story Thursday.

The police department says the officer has been on desk duty during an investigation.
