Day of fun in Peru benefit’s scholarship named after former fire chief

Posted by wlpo on June 19, 2015

If you see a lot of firefighters and paramedics in Peru’s Centennial Park this Saturday, don’t worry; they’re just competing in water fights for a good cause.

The water fights are part of the annual Gary Eccles Memorial Water fights and Fun Day. In addition to the firefighters and paramedics; local celebrities will face off in water fights after the pros are done including Rob Edwards from 96.5 the Wolf.

Aside from the water fights, there will also be rides in Peru’s aerial Fire Truck, a vendor and craft fair, an ice cream truck, live music, raffles, and bouncy houses for smaller kids. Food will also be sold.

The event runs from 10 until 4. All money raised goes to the Gary Eccles Memorial Scholarship Fund.

Eccles was a longtime Peru and La Salle firefighter before he died from cancer in 2013.
