More road closures due to flooding in the Illinois Valley

Flooding has caused roads across the Illinois Valley to close.

Water Street in Peru is closed due to the flooding of the Illinois River. Barricades were set up Tuesday afternoon. Water Street Pub and Brandy’s are still open though, you can access them by using Putnam Street.

Dee Bennett Road between Utica and Ottawa is closed to traffic. In Ottawa, Canal Road from Old Chicago to Green Street is closed as is Green Street from Chapel Street to Canal Road.

In Bureau County, the Illinois 26 is closed from the Illinois 29 intersection to the Illinois River due to the Bureau Creek flooding its banks. The Interstate 180 northbound ramp onto 26 is also closed.

Mandatory evacuation ordered for Utica due to rising Illinois River

If you live in Utica and were affected by the 2013 floods, now is the time to get out.

The village has ordered a mandatory evacuation for all residences and businesses that were affected by the 2013 floods. The order was issued as the Illinois River had swelled past the level that required a mandatory evacuation.

A spokesman with the Utica Police Department said the Police and Fire Departments were in the process of moving city hall up the hill to the community center. He also said the flood wasn’t expected to be as bad as 2013.

Voluntary evacuation issued in Marseilles due to rising Illinois River

If you were affected by the 2013 flood in Marseilles, now may be a good time to seek higher ground.

A voluntary evacuation notice has been issued in Marseilles. As it stands now, the Illinois River in Marseilles is expected to stay a foot below the level that would require a mandatory evacuation.

If you do evacuate, you’re asked to call 795-2001 and leave a message with your name and address. If you stick around, the Marseilles Police Department says you should still make arrangements if and when evacuating becomes mandatory.

Planned power outage in Ladd is rescheduled

Rainy weather has delayed a planned power outage in Ladd.

Plans were to turn off the power village-wide so the town’s main transformer could be replaced for the second time in two years on Tuesday. Village Clerk Diane Chandler though said the outage was put off because of bad weather.

The power outage has been rescheduled for 8:30 next Tuesday, June 23rd.

Trio from Princeton accused of having heroin

Not all drug busts along Interstate 80 involve people from outside the Illinois Valley.

Back on Wednesday, a car driven by Dan Miceli of Princeton was pulled over on I-80 just west of the Spring Valley exit. A drug dog showed up and allegedly led officers to find jeweler’s bags of heroin and hypodermic needles. Miceli along with his passengers Gregory Hall and Lindsey Porter, also both from Princeton were all arrested for unlawful possession of a controlled substance.

While at the Bureau County Jail, Hall was allegedly found to have more heroin. He was also charged with unlawful delivery of a controlled substance.
