La Salle County Board passes resolution against “right to work” zones

Posted by wlpo on June 10, 2015

Chances are if you work in a union, you were at the Knights of Columbus Hall Tuesday night in Ottawa.

An overflow crowd mostly made up of union members roared in applause when the La Salle County Board approved a resolution to “Protect the Illinois Worker”. The resolution spells out the perceived negatives of “right to work” zones including lower wages and benefits.

Governor Bruce Rauner has pushed “right to work” zones while speaking around the state. The board resolution opposing the idea will be sent to the governor as well as other state leaders.

Only two board members voted against the resolution, Republicans David Zielke and Charles Borchsenius. Zielke thinks there are bigger issues affecting La Salle County then a “right to work” resolution while Borchsenius says the resolution goes too far.

Changes in some of the wording of the resolution seemed to sway many Republicans to vote yes after voting to delay a vote last month.
