Police carry a “torch” for the cause

Posted by wlpo on June 7, 2015

Northern Illinois Police departments are taking on one more responsibility – one that won’t last long.

This week officers are running through their communities, including Mendota, on the Illinois Law Enforcement Torch Run to support Special Olympics. Some 3000 officers representing every branch of law enforcement will cover the 23 legs of the run.

The torch will go through Belvidere, Rockford, Winnebago, Dekalb and LaSalle counties and across the NIU campus. Mendota officers will take their turn on late Wednesday.

The Illinois Law Enforcement Torch Run is the single largest year-round fund-raising event benefiting Special Olympics Illinois.
