La Salle man arrested with heroin

Another heroin arrest has been made in the Illinois Valley.

Reynaldo Godina of La Salle was arrested Monday for possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia following a traffic stop in Spring Valley.

Godina was initially stopped on route 6 at Richard Street in Spring Valley for illegal tinted windows, but there was allegedly drug paraphernalia out in plain view in his car. Godina was taken into custody and police inventoried his car, where they found syringes, heroin and other items of drug paraphernalia.

Godina was transported to the District 17 state police headquarters for questioning and was released pending further investigation. He’s set to appear in Bureau County Court June 16th.

Ottawa hosting Firefighters Memorial Day

As seen last Sunday in Utica, firefighters often put themselves in dangerous situations to save the lives. Tomorrow is a chance to pay tribute.

Ottawa is hosting its 22nd Annual Firefighters Memorial Day and Open House. A memorial service at the fire station starts at 10 with the open house lasting until noon.

There will also be kid’s activities.

La Salle County Courthouse upgrading fire alarms, elevator

Upgrading fire alarms and an elevator at La Salle County’s courthouses won’t be cheap.

The La Salle County Board is spending over $124,000 for fire alarm upgrades at the downtown courthouse in Ottawa. Correct Electric out of Newark got the job with the lowest of four bids.

Modernizing the elevator on the east side of the courthouse on Etna Road will cost over $167,000. Lite Construction out of Montgomery will do the work. They were the only bidder.

Cost of marriage licenses going up in La Salle County

The cost of getting hitched in La Salle County is going up.

Starting July 1st, the cost of getting a marriage license is going up from $25 to $30. There’s also a $5 state fee tacked on that goes towards a domestic violence prevention fund.

If you’re starting your own business, the cost of filing your business name with the county clerk’s office is increasing from $5 to $25.

Faxes and copies of documents with the Recorder’s Office are also going up July 1st along with several Sheriff’s Department fees including having a deputy serve civil papers, a warrant or watch over an eviction.
