James Bragg resigns as L-P football coach

The La Salle-Peru football team will have a new leader on the sidelines next fall.

James Bragg resigned this morning as head football coach at L-P. He had been the coach for just one year.

Bragg was hired last April after spending the previous six seasons as an assistant at PORTA high school in Petersburg.

In his lone season at the helm, the Cavaliers struggled through an 0-9 season but showed promise on the JV levels.

Bragg will remain a teacher at the school.

Two from Chicago accused of dealing heroin in the Illinois Valley

The battle to keep heroin out of the Illinois Valley continues.

Officers from several departments helped to arrest two alleged heroin dealers on Wednesday. Deonta “Bobo” Harding and Ricardo “Tito” Hebron both of Chicago were arrested on warrants for unlawful delivery of a controlled substance. The pair is accused of dealing heroin in Ottawa and other spots in the Illinois Valley.

Harding and Hebron were both taken to the La Salle County Jail. Bond for both was set at $750,000.

Utica fire victim’s condition is improving

Five days after being pulled from a fire, Roy Lance of Utica is showing some improvement.

As of Thursday, Lance was listed in serious condition while being treated at St. Anthony’s Medical Center in Rockford. That’s an upgrade from critical condition earlier in the week.

Lance was unconscious when he was pulled out of a burning apartment Mother’s Day morning in downtown Utica. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Three day music festival coming to Cedar Point

Peace, love and music. Where have you heard that saying before?

The Bigfoot Band Camp Music Festival in Putnam County is the Illinois Valley’s version of Woodstock. Several local and regional bands are lined up to play June 7th thru the 9th at the Cedar Creek Ranch in Cedar Point. Besides music, there will be arts and crafts, food, hula hoop dancers and fire performers.

The headline bands include Reverend Horton Heat, 303 and the Krank Daddies. A weekend pass is $60 with single-day tickets also available along with tickets that include a space for your RV.
