Posted by wlpo on May 12, 2015

There’s a new person in charge at the Illinois Veterans’ Home in La Salle.

Sherri Whitmer was handed over the reigns of the home Tuesday, taking over for interim director Lenard Winnicki. Whitmer comes to the VA home in La Salle from Rockford where she was administrator at Crimson Pointe Senior Living. Before that she worked 17 years in the Illinois Department of Human Services. She’s originally from the Princeton area.

Department of Veteran’s Affairs Director Erica Jeffries says Whitmer’s track record equips her well to “lead our staff at La Salle in providing the highest quality of care for our veteran residents.”

Spring Valley dealing with flooded basements fallout

Posted by wlpo on May 12, 2015

Did the recent rain flood your basement? If it did and you live in Spring Valley, the mayor wants to know.

According to the NewsTribune, Mayor Walt Marini urged you to call the city if your basements took on water, especially if it’s the first time. Marini says they’ll look at each situation and see if it’s a problem the city can fix.

Alderman Chuck Hansen says the city has done a lot already to help alleviate flooding and blames five inches of rain in such a short time causing the latest flooded basements.
