Fire injures man; rewrites Utica’s history

Posted by wlpo on May 10, 2015

A second floor apartment fire wrote a new chapter in Utica’s history early Sunday. 15 departments struck the blaze at 149 Mill street, home of Second Floor Antiques, around 4:30am on the business district’s north side. Yellow hoses lined 1 side of Mill and down the street immediately west. 2 firemen entered the burning apartment and rescued an unresponsive man. He remains unidentified while receiving treatment at St. Anthony’s in Rockford.

The cause isn’t known, but a state fire marshall will make a determination. Duffys was open Sunday, but other businesses that could of – Skoogs, the antique store, a popcorn shop and Joy and Ed’s were not. It’s not known how long they’ll be closed. Firemen returned for an hour late morning after a brief flare up.
