Families lose Oglesby home in fire

Posted by wlpo on May 2, 2015

3 Oglesby families living at 355 East Walnut started Saturday, perhaps, just like you do. Now, those families are looking for homes after theirs were destroyed by fire Saturday.  Oglesby Assistant Fire Chief Steve Maltas told “Classic Hits 103-9 WLPO” news all residents were home and got away safely. A State Fire Marshall is continuing his investigation into the cause.

6 departments helped battle flames that, at one point, covered the front of the old wood two story house.  A city resident, Ron Pioli showed “Classic Hits 103-9 WLPO news” his video. It showed the fire in its early stages with smoke columns rising and turning a deep black. The structure, Maltas said, will likely be demolished. The heavy black smoke seen was due to the outside vinyl melting. Firemen left after 4pm.
