Special Olympics athletes descend on Spring Valley for Spring Games

The running of the torch and lighting of the cauldron in Spring Valley will kick off the annual Spring Games for the Special Olympics.

Around 250 athletes are expected to compete this Saturday at Hall High School in 19 different track and field events. The athletes represent La Salle, Bureau, Grundy, Henry, Marshall, Putnam and Stark Counties.

The opening ceremony starts at 9 with competitions finishing up around 3 in the afternoon. Athletes who win the gold this Saturday will compete in the Summer Games in June in Bloomington-Normal.
