Recycling events leave some disappointed

Posted by wlpo on April 26, 2015

Was it bad weather, worker’s safety or just bad planning? Whatever the reason, two electronics recycling pickups ended early Saturday leaving many unhappy.

Both the countywide recycling event in Ottawa and the drop for people in Peru and La Salle in the Carus parking lot ended well before the scheduled end time of 1. People waiting in with electronics to drop off were turned away. The line in Peru stretched for several blocks along 6th Street as the rain came down.

An apology message to everyone who was turned away in Peru was posted on the city’s official Facebook page. The apology said it was a combination of terrible weather, unsafe working conditions and overwhelming demand that led to the drop off ending early.

Electronics drop off events have become extremely popular since a law passed making it illegal for garbage companies to pick up TVs from your curb.
