Dayton man allegedly killed and cremated by two of his employees

Posted by wlpo on April 24, 2015

Two men from the Illinois Valley are charged with a gruesome murder.

48-year-old William Horman of Dayton and 21-year-old Jonathan Beckman of Wedron are accused of bludgeoning to death 47-year-old Robert Dowd of Dayton before cremating his body and dumping remains into the Fox River. La Salle County Sheriff Tom Templeton says they got a call last week about Dowd going missing. They quickly figured out that he was likely dead and interviews and evidence led them to Horman and Beckman.

The two are accused of murdering Dowd at his truck wash business in Dayton called Rob’s Wash Outs. They allegedly burned Dowd’s body for two days in a burn pile before using a bucket to dump remains into the Fox River.

La Salle County State’s Attorney Brian Towne says Horman and Beckman both had worked for Dowd and that Horman had made comments about wanting to kill Dowd after a potential business partnership fell through. Towne says both Horman and Beckman admitted to how they tried concealing Dowd’s body.

Horman and Beckman are being held in the La Salle County Jail on two million dollars bond. They’ll be up for indictment May 5th.
