State moving ahead with building new bridge over the Illinois River in Spring Valley

Posted by wlpo on April 13, 2015

It may not happen in the next year or two but plans are moving ahead to replace the Route 89 bridge in Spring Valley.

According to the NewsTribune, the city sold land west of the bridge to the Illinois Department of Transportation for $4,000. This was needed for building a new bridge over the Illinois River.

The new bridge is estimated to cost around $25 million. It would be built slightly to the east of the existing bridge.

The bridge replacement is part of the 5-year highway improvement plan of the state.
