There will soon be one less elected official in Utica

Posted by wlpo on April 9, 2015

Do you think a city clerk should be elected or appointed? The way Utica’s clerk is picked is changing.

According to the NewsTribune, trustees have decided to allow the mayor to appoint the village clerk instead of it being an elected position. Laurie Gbur is the current clerk and still has two years left on her elected term so the change won’t happen until her term is up.

Future Village President Matt Jereb voted against the change wondering why the change needed to be made two years before the clerk’s term runs out.
