Sirens blare but no tornadoes in the Illinois Valley

Posted by wlpo on April 9, 2015

Sirens blared in the 8 o’clock hour in places like Streator and Kangley but despite a tornado warning, no confirmed tornado ever touched down in La Salle, Bureau or Putnam County Thursday night.

There was however hail reported in Lostant, Magnolia and Varna with a 70 mile per hour wind gust in Lostant. Calls also went out about power lines being downed in Malden and Seatonville along with a transformer blowing up west of Route 23 near Streator.

At the height of the storms, Ameren reported nearly 140 homes without power in Bureau County.
