Work set to start on new grain terminal along the Peru riverfront

Posted by wlpo on April 8, 2015

Ground breaking for a multi-million dollar fertilizer and grain terminal is planned for this Friday morning in Peru.

CHS, Inc. out of Minnesota and Northern Partners Cooperative in Mendota have teamed together to build a barge loading facility south of Market Street along the Illinois River. The barge terminal will handle corn and soybeans and have a 47,000 ton capacity fertilizer warehouse.

The city annexed the property and expects it to be a $31 million dollar investment. At least eight jobs will be created when the barge terminal is up and running by next spring.

The ground breaking starts at 11.
