La Salle spending thousands on joining regional economic development group

Posted by wlpo on April 7, 2015

Attracting industry to the Illinois Valley often is a team effort.

According to the NewsTribune, the La Salle City Council has agreed to join the Economic Development Corporation of North Central Illinois. The group represents La Salle, Bureau and Putnam Counties and has been pushed by leaders of Hennepin and Princeton.

Part of the membership is a fee of $13,000 for La Salle based on the city’s population. They plan on using TIF money to pay for the group fee.

Alderman Jim Bacidore is against joining the economic development group saying it was “a glorified Illinois Valley Area Chamber of Commerce”. La Salle ended its membership with IVAC in 2010.
