Field fires galore in the Illinois Valley

Posted by wlpo on April 2, 2015

If there’s one positive to the rain it’s that there shouldn’t be any grass and brush fires to worry about.

Firefighters from across the Illinois Valley were kept busy Wednesday with several calls about what started as controlled burns quickly spreading into out of control grass or brush fires aided by gusty winds.

Just before 11:30, Mendota and Troy Grove firefighters responded to a grass fire that spread to a telephone pole along the west side of Interstate 39. A few minutes later, Spring Valley and Ladd firefighters were called to a grass fire on Deerpath Road south of Hall High School. An ambulance was also called for a man who collapsed near the fire. He was taken to St. Margaret’s Hospital.

Places like Magnolia, Marseilles and Seatonville dealt with afternoon field fires.
